Biomechanical Assessments: Understanding How You Move
What is a biomechanical assessment?
A biomechanical assessment is an expert evaluation of how your feet, legs, and hips work together during movement—especially walking. At Gold Standard Foot & Leg Clinic, our experienced podiatrists assess for issues like poor alignment, abnormal gait patterns, or muscle imbalances that may be causing pain or affecting your performance.
Why would I need one?
If you experience foot, ankle, knee, hip, or lower back discomfort—or if you are an athlete looking to optimise performance—an assessment can help uncover the root cause. It’s also ideal for those dealing with recurring injuries or unexplained discomfort during everyday movement.
What does the assessment involve?
We’ll start with a detailed discussion of your symptoms and medical history. Then we observe how you walk (gait analysis) and examine the mechanics of your feet and lower limbs. This might include tests for flexibility, joint mobility, and muscle strength.
What happens after the assessment?
You’ll receive a personalised treatment plan designed to address the specific issues identified. This may include:
- Fascial Manipulation using the Stecco method to relieve pain and improve function
- Custom-made insoles (orthotics) to correct alignment and offload pressure
- Targeted exercises or manual therapy to strengthen and rebalance your movement
What are the benefits?
Improved posture, reduced pain, better mobility, and injury prevention. Whether you are walking, running, or just staying active—your feet and legs will thank you.
